Federal and state tax incentives are now available to home and business owners who install energy efficient equipment,
adopt renewable energy measures or improve the overall efficiency of a home or building. Wisconsin manufacturers can

Taxing Terminology
Several terms, including incentives, credits, deductions, exemptions and rebates, are used to refer to tax benefits.
But, they mean different things:
- Tax incentives reduce the amount of tax owed, dollar for dollar.
- Tax credits are the same as incentives, at least as they apply to the federal 2005 Energy Policy Act.
- Tax deductions reduce overall taxable income. The value of the deduction depends on your tax bracket.
- Tax exemptions eliminate, or remove, taxes for specific items.
- Rebates are simplified tax incentives: instead of reducing the amount of tax owed, they reduce the cost of an equipment purchase.
