Minnesota's Department of Commerce provides practical information for homeowners who are interested in improving the
energy efficiency and safety of their homes, saving money, and protecting the environment. Their guide on water heaters
covers buying, sizing, purchasing, and installing a water heater system, and how to avoid waste in using hot water.
The guides are available through the Energy Information Center and are available by mail, by calling 1-800-657-3710
to request a publication, on CD-ROM, or online.
United States Department of Energy
The Department of Energy has several websites where consumers can find information on energy efficiency and renewable
energy technologies.

This site features a reference brief on "Demand (also known as Tankless or Instantaneous) Water Heaters" as well as
information on "Energy-Efficient Water Heating," and "Selecting a New Water Heater."
- Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs
Online information on saving water and heating it efficiently, choosing a water heater, reducing your water heater's
energy use, and reducing your usage is available on this site.
- Office of Codes and Standards
DOE's Office of Codes and Standards is responsible for establishing the national efficiency standards for home appliances
and equipment. Their site has information on purchasing energy-efficient appliances (including water heaters) and
information on reading the EnergyGuide label found on appliances and information on building codes.
