Replacing windows is rarely cost-effective based soley on energy-savings. However, if you're already planning to replace your windows because of maintenance or aesthetic reasons, make the most of the opportunity and consider sealing the "envelope" that surrounds your living space: the ceiling, outer walls, windows and floors. (For more information, visit the following pages: Insulation & Air Sealing or Home Improvement.) You'll get new windows, comfort and energy cost savings.

ENERGY STAR® qualified windows make it possible for consumers to identify energy efficient windows, doors and skylights. ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors and skylights are twice as efficient as the average windows manufactured just ten years ago. They can help cut your heating and cooling costs and make your home more comfortable.

ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors, and skylights don't compromise cost, comfort, versatility or style. These high-performing windows are available in every operator type, including single- and double-hung, casement, horizontal slider, fixed, picture and patio slider. And, they are manufactured with most common frame materials, including aluminum, fiberglass, vinyl and wood.

ENERGY STAR qualified windows are tailored to fit the needs of the different climate regions of the United States: Northern, Central, and Southern and carry the label from the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). NFRC provides unbiased energy performance ratings. To ensure that your new windows perform as well as they should, be sure to have a qualified contractor install them.
