Equipment Eligible for Cash-Back Rewards under the Efficient Heating and Cooling Program.
Cash-Back Rewards listed on this page are available for selected high efficiency heating and cooling equipment for residences. The equipment must meet the high efficiency standards and must be installed prior to the application for the reward. Equipment must be installed beginning July 1, 2007 to be eligible.
Below is a complete listing of rewards available for both
Residential and Business customers. To determine whether you are eligible, click on the drop-down eligibility tool in the top menu bar or call 800.762.7077.
Except for central air equipment, a Cash-Back Reward is only available for pre-qualified equipment. See the pre-qualified equipment list below.
Prequalified Equipment List
HVAC Residential Incentive Application 2007-2008
Natural Gas Boiler
Reward Amount: $200
This Cash-Back Reward is only available for models on the Pre-Qualified Equipment List. A qualifying natural gas boiler must have the following attributes:
- Have at least an efficiency rating of at least 90% AFUE
- Modulate its firing rate
- Be a sealed combustion unit
- Primary use must be for space heating
It is not permissible for other equipment to be vented in the same flue as a sealed combustion boiler.
Contractors are required to implement or facilitate the following measures to qualify boiler installations for Cash-Back Rewards:
- Chimney liners must be installed where a high efficiency natural gas boiler replaces an atmospherically-drafted boiler that was vented through the same flue as a gas water heater.
- Flue closure protocol must be followed where a high efficiency boiler is installed and the chimney is no longer in use (i.e. by a gas water heater). Flue closure protocol may be found in the Instructions section at the end of the guide.
Gas Furnace
Reward Amount: $150
This Cash-Back Reward is only available for models on the Pre-Qualified Equipment List. A qualifying forced air heating system must have the following attributes:
- Have at least an efficiency rating of at least 90% AFUE
- Automatically vary the Btu output using a variable speed blower motor, which can be called by a variety of names including electronically commutated motor (ECM) and efficient brushless DC motor
- Vary its output based on the amount of heating load (have at least two stages of firing for furnaces or have two-stage compressors or a method other then strip heat for varying its Btu output for geothermal systems)
- Be a sealed combustion unit Efficient Heating and Cooling Guide Page 12 Contractors are required to implement or facilitate the following measures to qualify furnace installations for cash-back rewards:
- Chimney liners must be installed where a high efficiency gas furnace replaces an atmospherically-drafted furnace that was vented through the same flue as a gas water heater.
- Flue closure protocol must be followed where a high efficiency furnace is installed and the chimney is no longer in use (i.e. by a gas water heater). Flue closure protocol may be found in the Instructions section at the end of the guide.
Ground Source (Geothermal) Heat Pumps must use a heat pump and air handler that meet the above criteria and also have a minimum efficiency rating of COP 3.3 for a closed loop or a COP 3.6 for an open loop system
NOTE:
- Air handlers are not eligible for this reward.
- Two or multi-speed motors are not eligible for this reward.
Central Air Conditioner
SEER 14 <65MBh
Reward Amount: $100
SEER 15 <65MBh
Reward Amount: $150
SEER 16+ <65MBh
Reward Amount: $200
A qualifying central air conditioner (CAC) must meet the claimed SEER rating based on only the evaporator and condenser coil combination. The SEER may not be increased by factoring in the efficiency of a variable speed forced air heating system fan, except in cases where a two-stage air conditioner is installed. Eligibility of coil combinations is based on information in the ARI database (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, aridirectory.org/ari) or other reliable sources.
To receive a reward:
- The condenser model number and evaporator coil model number must be clearly and completely entered on the reward form.
- Proper airflow and refrigerant charge must be achieved on all CAC installations (instructions to achieve proper refrigerant charge and airflow may be found in the Instructions section at the end of the guide); however, it is only mandatory that the data be submitted for installations completed between May 15 and September 15. The Field Collection Form may be completed and attached to the Reward Application instead of filling in the Airflow and Charge data on the Reward Application. If a furnace with an ECM is installed at the same time as the CAC, the Return Temp and Supply Temp does not need to be filled in on either the Reward Application or the Field Collection Form.
- The evaporator coil and the condenser coil must be replaced.
- The refrigerant line diameters must meet the manufacturer specifications for the unit being installed. If existing lines do not meet the required standards, they must be replaced with the appropriate size.
Ductless Mini-Split Systems that meet these efficiency requirements are also eligible for this reward. Data for proper refrigerant charge must be submitted for installations completed between May 15 and September 15; airflow data does not need to be submitted.
Ground Source (Geothermal) Heat Pumps that are only rated in EER it will be paid at the SEER level which the EER is equal to. For example if the EER is 15.5 the system will be paid at the SEER 15 level.
